Johns Hopkins is to set up a medical school in Malaysia!
Dunno if it's a good or bad news? Its definitely one of the top top top medical schools in the world, which means we can worry less about dangerous doctors next time, if the standard of teaching is on par with the "original" Johns Hopkins.
But what about the other schools? like MAHSA, UTAR. These are newly set up medical schools, and I think they definitely need more support and funding! I've always suspected that medical school tutors in Malaysia tend to "跳槽" all the time (in other words, change school whenever they get offered a better pay). Johns Hopkins is definitely gonna charge a bomb on its students, which means, lecturers are indirectly getting higher pay than in other institutions (just maybe, we never know), so logically, they get good lecturers! (not that lecturers who don't 跳槽 are lousy and bad though. Some are real passionate people)
What about the other medical schools that are less expensive? It is a known fact that we don't have enough "tutor supplies" for all the med schools in Malaysia, and yet recently, med schools are sprouting out like lalang in this country. In a few years's time, this country would be overloaded with doctors, competent or not. I've heard health care professionals saying that they would never let graduates from certain universities to treat them, ever.
Now, they know, because they are working with these fresh graduates, but what about the public?
